  • Contribution to climate change: Global map of tree canopy height. The project provides greater knowledge about forests, agroforestry systems and isolated forests, facilitating monitoring, conservation and verification of forest carbon credits with unprecedented precision.

  • Use of technology: Uses advanced artificial intelligence (Meta's DiNOv2 model), trained with 18 million high-resolution satellite images and calibrated with data. The model is self-supervised, does not rely on manual labels and can be applied to both satellite and drone images.

Application examples:

  • Monitoring forest restoration and carbon projects at local, national and global scales.

  • Governments, NGOs and companies can use open data for forest inventories, conservation planning and tracking deforestation and reforestation.

  • Researchers and developers can adapt the model for new applications, such as tree segmentation, biomass estimation or biodiversity monitoring.
